my tempurpedic mattress is sagging
Kristina Davis

I have been asked a lot of questions about mattresses lately but one of the most common is “why my Tempurpedic mattress is sagging, and how can I fix it?”

If you have asked a similar question then look no further because you are at the right place.

No matter how perfect a Tempurpedic mattress can be, over the years, it would begin to sag.

Rather than disposing of it, there are simple ways to fix it. And this article would be guiding you through the easiest methods and the steps involved.

If your Tempurpedic mattress is sagging, you need to add mattress toppers, and pads, or fix the foundation. Alternatively, you can always distribute the pressure and always do proper maintenance.

My Tempurpedic Mattress Is Sagging, Why?

As I said earlier, to be able to fix a sagging mattress we must first understand why it started sagging in the first place.

The thing about a Tempurpedic mattress is that it rarely sags so what could make it sag?

Here are the most likely reasons for a sagging mattress:

Reason #1: Bad Surface

Every mattress has a surface on which it is placed. The surface varies from a box spring to a solid platform to a bad surface in general.

Where you place your mattress determines if it will sag or not.

A bad surface that is not flat, strong, and well-balanced would affect the state of your Tempurpedic mattress negatively.

If you place your mattress on a surface that isn’t solid enough, it would begin to sag, causing a lot of discomfort while you sleep in it.

Reason #2: Bad Frame

There are two major things that affect the structure of a Tempurpedic mattress over time.

The first is where the mattress is placed, which was already discussed earlier.

The second is the bed frame. Those two work hand in hand to give a proper support system to the Tempurpedic mattress.

A weak bed support system has been known to be one of the major causes of sagging mattresses.

If a Tempurpedic bed does not have a flat rigid surface to be placed on and a good bed frame to support it, it is most likely to sag.

Reason #3: Too Much Pressure

We all know what too much pressure does to things and a Tempurpedic mattress is not exempted.

Constantly lying on a mattress, especially on a particular side, can eventually make it sag.

The more weight on the mattress, the more likely it would sag.

Tip: If a mattress has a strong support system, you don't have to worry about pressure affecting it.

Reason #4: Lack Of Maintenance

The lack of maintenance of your mattress makes it lose its quality faster, which in turn makes it sag.

Since we are constantly sleeping on the mattress, it has direct contact with the dead cells on our skin and the other dirt particles we carry with us to bed.

If you don’t clean and maintain your bed regularly, this dirt would find a way to degrade the integrity of the mattress.

In the long, this will cause it to sag in the process.

What To Do If Your Tempurpedic Mattress Is Sagging

what to do when mattress sags

Now that we are all familiar with the possible causes of a sagging Tempurpedic mattress we can now proceed to the next part of this article which is fixing it.

The methods of fixing the mattress are quite simple and easy to practice.

Here are the methods involved:

Method #1:Mattress Toppers Or Pads

Mattress Toppers or Pads are one of the most common solutions when dealing with a sagging Tempurpedic mattress.

A mattress topper would help fill up parts of the bed that are dented due to the sagging.

Although it is the most common choice to go for when you have a sagging mattress, it is always effective.

It might cover up the sagging areas of the mattress but it would prevent further sagging.

Mattress Toppers can only be effective if the mattress has a good support system, in cases where it doesn’t, the toppers are not as effective.

In summary, mattress toppers can fill up sagging Tempurpedic mattresses but they would offer enough support to prevent continual sagging, which brings us to our next method.

Tip: Mattress Toppers or Pads are best for side sleepers but can cause body pain for back sleepers.

Method #2: Fix The Foundation

The foundation of the mattress goes a long way to determining how the mattress would turn out over time.

If the mattress continues to sag even after adding the toppers, it means the foundation needs to be checked.

If the mattress foundation is weak, it has to be changed. The new foundation should be a spring box or a strong, even flat surface.

Tip: The foundation shouldn't be highly spaced to avoid sagging.

Method #3: Change Bed Frame

Another way to fix a sagging Tempurpedic mattress is to change the bed frame.

Sometimes the bed frame can either be too loose, too weak, or too unstable for the mattress.

And this is why it needs to be replaced or fixed by adding stoppers and fillers to make it more steady.

The stoppers would help fasten the foundation of the bed to the sidebars, while the fillers would help fill up the parts that make the frame soggy.

Method #4: Flip The Mattress (Dual Mattress)

This is my least favorite method but it is occasionally effective.

Flipping the mattress would make the flat and even bottom surface of the mattress go up while the sagging part goes down.

The Tempurpedic mattresses that are being made these days have just a single construction. This means the mattress doesn’t support flipping.

But in cases where the Tempurpedic mattress is dual, the flipping is a good enough method, although not a desirable one.

This is because although it fixes the sagginess of the mattress for a duration of time, the effect is not always permanent.

After a while, the mattress itself begins to lose its integrity.

How To Prevent Tempurpedic Mattress From Sagging?

Prevention is better than cure, it is on that note we would be discussing how to prevent your Tempurpedic mattress from sagging.

Method #1: Clean The Mattress

It is important to clean your mattress regularly to prevent it from losing its integrity.

It is quite easy to clean the mattress, all you have to do is strip the mattress of its bedding and vacuum it. After vacuuming, there may still be some noticeable stains on the mattress.

You can spray a cloth with a cleaning solution and use it to clean the stained area, making use of as little moisture as possible.

Tips: Don't spray the mattress directly with any cleaning product because moisture has a negative effect on the mattress.

Method #2: Proper Maintenance

Cleaning the mattress is not the only form of maintenance needed for the Tempurpedic mattress.

You also have to constantly check the mattress foundation and the bed frame to see how the support system is holding up.

If you notice any creek in the bed, check and make sure everything is intact. If there is a tiny dent out of place, check the foundation.

Method #3: Distribute The Pressure

When sleeping, make sure you alternate not only your position but also the place you lie on the bed.

distribute pressure

Your mattress is more likely to sag if you favor one part of the bed over the other. So it is best to distribute your body pressure all over the bed.

Conclusion

All items depreciate over time and your mattress is no exception. After some time, your mattress would sag eventually but knowing how to prevent it goes a long way in slowing down the process.

A sagging mattress can be a lot, causing discomfort while sleeping and different types of body pain while awake.

So when that time comes when you wonder to yourself, “my Tempurpedic mattress is sagging, look back to this article, and the information should help you out a lot.
